Danny Briere

Next to Rick Macleish, he may be the best clutch playoff scorer in team history. You gotta love a guy who plays his best in the biggest games, and, on top of that, is a true class act off the ice as well.

I think you meant that he signed in 2007, not 1997

Briere is and was one of the reasons hockey players are some of the most approachable athletes on the planet. He was easy to root for and awesome to watch. A huge part of why I fell in love with hockey

Briere: great playoff scorer, apparently a nice guy, but was never really enamored with him.

When he took in the kids to his home to help them, I knew this guy was a great person. He also happened to be pretty clutch when needed.

One of the most eagerly anticipated days of the offseason arrived yesterday: the making of a new ice surface at the Wells Fargo Center in preparation for the next hockey season. The lines and logos have been painted and the surface frozen.

My friends, it has started.

Former NBA superstar Charles Barkley was a guest on Fanatic Radio on Tuesday. He was presented with an autographed Ron Hextall jersey. Barkley is a big hockey fan, especially of the Flyers, and Hextall is his all-time favorite player. Turns out the feeling is mutual, as Barkley was the former goaltender's favorite basketball player. On the court and on the ice, the two had a lot in common.

I know it's a cliche, but I think it describes things pretty well... you can take Barkley out of Philly, but you can't take Philly out of Barkley. In addition to his mutual affinity with Hextall... when Kris Jenkins hit the championship-winning shot for Villanova last year, Barkley was out of his seat on the TV set fist-pumping.

What Briere did at his size was amazing. He's usually listed as being 5'9", and even that seems generous.

Absolutely! At our sports night event a few years back at the Margate JCC, he was the guest of honor. He could not have been nicer. He answered everyone's questions, no matter how dumb the question was LOL, took time to pose for pics and sign autographs for anyone who wanted one and was just amazingly nice the entire evening. He truly is a genuinely great person.

My favorite memory of Briere isn't even an on-ice one.

Before each game of the 2010 SCF, my friend and I would get there when the gates opened and go stand by the player tunnel. If kids came by, we'd move for them, but we were able to stay within a few feet at most.

Each game, about 2 hours before the game started, Briere would come out with headphones on and just sit on the bench. And he'd just sit, and stare, and he was basically visualizing the game before it happened. It was very cool to watch, and it has stuck with me more than any goal he ever scored.

Creative visualization is one of the powerful things we can do as humans to make things happen that we want.
